Players & Captains
1 - Player sign up
To enter our competitions all players must sign up for an LTA Player Plus Membership, ensuring the club you wish to represent is assigned as your venue. As part of the process you will be asked to register for a World Tennis Number.
This is all free of charge and only takes a few minutes to do.
2 - Familiarise yourself with the rules
A detailed set of rules can be viewed on our handbook page. Here's the important info:
Summer League (Men's, Women's and Mixed)
Teams are made up of three doubles pairings (so six players per team)
In a league match each pair plays three rubbers - one against each of the opposition pairings. So, there are 9 rubbers in a match altogether
Each rubber is the first to 8 games and must be won by 2 clear games. A standard tie-break is played if tied at 8-8
Cup competition formats do differ, including singles games for the men's Cleveland Cup
Veterans League (Mixed)
The Veterans League is open to all players over the age of 45 and is a mixed competition
Teams are made up of four players (two men and two women)
There are six rubbers in a match: four mixed doubles rubbers a men's doubles and a women's doubles
As with the Summer League rubbers are played to 8 games, with a tie-break played if necessary
Autumn League (Men's and Women's)
Teams are made up of two doubles pairings (so four players per team)
There are four rubbers in a match - with each pairing playing both of the opposition's pairings
Each rubber is played over two standard sets (first to six), with a standard tie-break played if tied at 6-6
If the match is tied at 1-1 in sets then a champions tie-break (first to 10) is played to decide the winner
Please note that for clubs who submit multiple teams in a league (for example, an A, B and C team) there are eligibility rules concerning which teams a player can represent during the season.
